Wasted $80 on a 'waterproof' tent that leaked like a sieve during my first trip to Lake Tahoe

I bought this Kelty Grand Mesa 2 off a flash sale site thinking I scored a deal. First night at a campsite near Emerald Bay it started drizzling, and within an hour water was pooling on my sleeping bag. Ended up sleeping in the car and tossing the tent when I got home. Anyone else get burned by a so-called waterproof tent that didn't hold up?

Honestly that's rough, I've had a "waterproof" jacket turn into a sponge before.

Took me straight back to that trip where I thought I was smart buying a budget "waterproof" rain jacket from some online sale, @wesley_grant33. First real downpour and I was soaked through within 20 minutes, sleeves dripping like I'd just been swimming. Learned the hard way that those coatings need to be reapplied or they just wear off after a few washes. Always check the reviews now and don't assume the label means anything.
