First time crossing a beaver dam on a quad and somehow didn't flip

Took my new-to-me 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 through a back trail near Thunder Bay last weekend. Hit a beaver dam crossing that looked sketchy as hell, water was higher than usual after that rain. I went slow, kept my weight back, and the damn thing just crawled right over without even bogging down. Learned that momentum and picking your line carefully matters more than throttle mashing. Anyone else got a story about crossing something they thought would end badly?

Always thought throttle was the answer, but you just changed my mind on that.

You said "is it really that deep" and I was just thinking about something totally different but related. My neighbor has this old Yamaha dirt bike from the 80s that he rebuilt, and every time he starts it up I can smell the mixed gas and it takes me back to when my cousin tried to adjust the throttle on his CR250 by just loosening the cable housing and then the thing stuck wide open on a gravel road. We ended up in a ditch full of blackberry bushes. So yeah, maybe it's that deep, or maybe it's just about getting the carb right. Either way, I'm still team throttle for now.
