Found a cheap way to fix my winch cable fray at camp

I was up near Sudbury last month and my winch cable started fraying pretty bad on a muddy trail. Tried using electrical tape but it just peeled off after one pull. A buddy told me to grab a pack of cheap cable thimbles from Canadian Tire for like 8 bucks and now the cable runs smooth through the guide no problem. Has anyone else found random hardware store fixes that saved their ride?

Yeah exactly, I picked up a cheap set of metal thimbles at a garage sale for like two bucks and they totally changed my sewing game. I used to think thimbles were optional or just for people doing really heavy fabric work, but once I got used to pushing the needle with one instead of my fingertip, it saved me so much pain. The key is finding one that actually fits your finger snug so it doesn't slide off or feel loose, you know? I even started using one for hand quilting and it makes stuffing the needle through multiple layers way less frustrating. Cheap thimbles work just as well as the expensive ones if they fit right, honestly.
