The $15 ratchet strap trick that saved my quad on a logging road near Sudbury

I was 12km deep on a sketchy logging road near Sudbury when my rear rack snapped loose from the frame. The bolt hole stripped clean and I had nothing to fix it with. I tried jamming a stick in there but that fell out after 50 feet. Then I remembered a ratchet strap I always keep under the seat for hauling gear. I wrapped it around the whole rack and frame and cranked it down tight. That thing held for the remaining 30km back to the truck. Has anyone else MacGyvered a trail fix with a strap?

That strap trick saved my buddy's dirtbike once. Kept his muffler from dragging after a bracket snapped. We even used a second one to tie his boot sole back on after it started flapping. Funny what you can do with the right hardware.

Haha man that reminds me of when I was out on some trails near Timmins and my clutch lever snapped off clean. I had nothing but a roll of electrical tape and a zip tie. I taped the broken pieces together then zip tied the whole thing to the handlebar. It felt like a hack but it actually worked for like 20 more miles. Sometimes you just gotta make do with what you got.
