Took me 15 years to realize I was over-tightening my winch cable
I was out near Bancroft last fall, helping a buddy pull his stuck side-by-side out of a muddy ditch. I had my winch all cranked down like I always do, and this old guy who was fishing nearby just hollered over 'you're gonna snap that cable before you even get moving'. I told him I knew what I was doing, but sure enough, halfway through the pull it just let go with a bang. He walked over and showed me how to spool it loose with a few wraps of tension instead of cranking it bone tight. I felt like an idiot but also learned more in 5 minutes than I had in 15 years of owning an ATV. Anyone else learn a basic thing way later than they should have?

Oh man, that's a rough way to learn. We've all been there.

Wait, did you end up replacing the whole thing or just patch it?
