A cashier at my local grocery store showed me a trick with canned tuna that I still use

I was standing in line a few months back at the Food Lion on Main Street, holding a can of tuna and a jar of mayo, feeling uninspired. The cashier, an older lady named Carol, looked at my stuff and said, "You know, you can skip the mayo if you just mix in a can of drained peas and carrots instead." She told me her mother used to do it during lean times, and it makes the tuna stretch further without getting dry. I tried it that night with a can of mixed vegetables and some salt and pepper, and honestly it was better than my usual tuna salad. Now I keep a few cans of peas and carrots in my pantry just for this. Has anyone else tried adding canned veggies to their tuna? I'm curious what other combinations work.

That old trick works because the vegetable starch acts as a natural binder.

Doubt it's that deep @grayb64, just skip the mayo if that's your thing.
