Bought a $6 can of 'gourmet' chili at Whole Foods and a $1 can at Aldi beat it in a blind taste test with 4 friends
I'm not kidding. I got the fancy organic stuff with the bison meat because it looked great on the shelf, $5.99 a can, and I figured it had to be better than the cheap stuff. Nope. I heated both up in separate pots, put them in unmarked bowls, and had my roommate and two neighbors try them. Three out of four picked the Aldi can. The fourth one said he couldn't tell the difference. The bison chili was watery and the beans were mushy. The dollar can had a thicker sauce and actual seasoning. I get that canned food gets a bad rap, but shelling out six bucks for something a can of store brand beats is just dumb. What's the most you ever paid for a can that turned out worse than the cheap version?
