Corned beef hash from a can is better than fresh, fight me

I spent 12 years turning my nose up at canned corned beef hash. Thought it was prison food. Then last month I was stuck at a campground near Lake Placid with no cooler and a gas station that only sold cans. Grabbed one, fried it in a cast iron pan with a little butter until the edges crisped, cracked an egg on top. That greasy, salty crust beat any brunch version I've paid $14 for. Am I wrong, or does the can version just hit different for breakfast emergency situations?

Same thing happened to me in Maine. Canned + crispy edges wins every time.
