Pro tip: stop shaking the can before you open it

I did this for years. Thought I was mixing the corn or beans up. Then a friend at a camping trip told me to let the can sit still. Opened a can of cream of mushroom soup that way. No splatter, no mess. The liquid stays separate from the solids. Makes dumping it into a pot way cleaner. Anyone else make this mistake for way too long?

Shaking cans just makes a mess, leaving the can still for a sec does the trick every time.

You said leaving the can still for a sec and that's exactly right. It's funny how we think we need to shake everything up to get the best out of it, but really it's the exact opposite sometimes. Like with paint, you don't shake it, you stir it slowly so all the bits get mixed in without air bubbles. Or even with people, you know? We always think we need to rush around and shake things up to make progress, but the best ideas and the best conversations come when you just sit still and let things settle for a minute. That little pause before you open the can, it's like a life lesson in a can of paint or soda.
