Warning: That fancy $8 canned soup wasn't worth it at all

I grabbed a premium lentil soup from the Co-op last week thinking it would be better than Progresso. It was $8 for a tiny can and honestly tasted like salty mud with a few sad lentils floating around. My $1.50 store brand chili with some crackers crushed in was way more filling and actually had flavor. Has anyone else been burned by overpriced canned stuff that just didn't deliver?

I actually had a totally different experience with the Co-op's tomato basil soup last fall. It was around $7 and it had real chunks of tomato and basil, not just a smooth puree, and the flavor was way more fresh than anything from a regular can. I get that $8 is steep for soup, but I felt like the ingredients justified it for me since I didn't need to add anything to make it taste good. Did you try heating it up with some spices or maybe a splash of cream to see if that helped?

Did you ever get that soup fresh from the hot bar or just grab it cold from the fridge? I remember last fall I picked up a container of their butternut squash soup from the cold case and it was basically a brick of mush that tasted like nothing. But then a friend told me you have to ask for it from the soup station where they heat it up there, and it was a whole different story. Funny how a place can sell the same thing two ways and one is good and one is just sad. Reminds me of when I bought a pre-made sandwich from there and it was like eating wet cardboard.
