Finally got a callback after 47 cold applications over 3 months

Switched from sending generic resumes to tailoring each one with specific keywords from the job description, and my response rate went from zero to 3 interviews this week alone. Anyone else find that small tweak made the biggest difference?

But nobody's talking about how applicant tracking systems actually work... they're basically scanning for exact phrase matches, not synonyms or related terms. So if the job description says "managed budgets" and you wrote "handled finances", it might as well be a different language to the software. That keyword matching trick works because it's literally gaming the robot gatekeeper, not because those words prove you're the best fit.

Is it really that deep though? Like yeah keywords help but 3 interviews from 47 apps still isn't that great. Most of those job descriptions are just buzzword soup anyway. Half the time the keywords they want don't even match what the actual job is about. You probably just got lucky this week or something.
