My manager told me my interview answers were too long and rambling
He said 'I don't need the whole story, just the headline' after a practice session. I cut every answer down to under 90 seconds and got the next job. What's the most brutal feedback you've gotten that actually helped?

Yeah, that's a great one to learn early. I had a boss tell me my reports read like a mystery novel where the point was buried on page ten. He said "Give me the answer first, then the backup if I ask." It stung, but now I lead every email or update with the one-line takeaway. It forces you to get to the point fast.

My dispatcher taught me the same rule with load updates. Start with "late due to weather" not the whole story of the storm. It saves everyone time and stress. That boss gave you solid gold advice.

My old pastry chef told me my plating notes read like a short story and he just needed the ticket. Took me like three tries before I realized he wanted "chocolate curl, left side" not a paragraph about how the sauce looked like a sunset. Really changed how I write everything now though.
