My mentor told me I was 'over optimizing my resume' and it honestly stung at first

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last Tuesday showing my resume to this guy who's been a hiring manager for 15 years. I had spent 3 hours tweaking every bullet point to match keywords from job descriptions. He just pointed at my resume and said 'you sound like a robot who never actually did anything.' That hit different because he was right. I had stripped out all the real stories about projects I led and mistakes I fixed. Has anyone else had someone tell them their resume was too polished and it actually made them worse at getting interviews?

Same thing with dating profiles. Everyone sounds fake now.
