Pro tip: don't let a recruiter talk you into a job you're not qualified for.
I let a recruiter push me into applying for a "senior electrician" gig last spring even though I barely had 4 years in the field. I got the interview somehow and the guy asked me about running 3 phase motors which I'd only seen once on a job. I froze up and it was super awkward for everyone. Learned to trust my gut and not let someone else's commission mess with my reputation. Has anyone else had a recruiter oversell them like that?

Oh man, that's rough! I bet companies sometimes forget that a recruiter's paycheck shouldn't decide who gets put in the hot seat.

Oh come on, I gotta push back on that a little. Recruiters are people too, and most of them aren't playing games with people's careers for a bigger bonus. If anything, they usually get paid on how many candidates they place, not on how fast they burn through them. So putting someone in the "hot seat" just for the sake of it would actually hurt their own numbers when that person quits or underperforms. The issue is more about companies cutting corners and piling work on recruiters until they're drowning, not about some evil plot to screw candidates.
