PSA: your resume only gets about 7 seconds before someone decides to trash it

saw this stat in a hiring manager survey from last year and it blew my mind. I always thought recruiters spent like a minute skimming. turns out they scan for keywords and job titles in like 7 seconds. I redesigned my resume to be way more scannable and got 3 callbacks in 2 weeks. anyone else had luck with a simpler layout?

That whole 7 second thing makes sense when you think about how most people skim everything now, not just resumes. It's the same way we scroll through Instagram or Twitter, looking for something that catches our eye in half a second before moving on. The shorter attention spans are real across the board, so having to make your resume easy to scan is just playing the game the way it works now.

Read this thing from a hiring manager at Google who said they use an algorithm to scan for keywords first, and then only spend 10-15 seconds actually looking at the resume that made the cut. Makes the 7 second stat seem generous honestly, since the human part is even shorter than we thought.
