Spent $400 on a career coach and got told to 'find my passion'

Back in March I was feeling stuck in my accounting job so I hired this coach who had a bunch of fancy certifications on her website. She charged me $400 for a two hour session where she mostly asked me what I liked to do as a kid. I told her I used to organize my toy cars by color and she said that meant I should look into event planning. Like what even is that logic? I ended up quitting accounting to try selling handmade soap for six months and lost like $2,000 before I went crawling back to my old firm. Has anyone else paid for advice that was totally useless?

Right? I fell for that nonsense too. Paid a "life strategist" $350 to point out that my weekend baking hobby meant I should open a cupcake shop. Six months later I had a mountain of debt and a deep hatred for cream cheese frosting. My favorite part was when he asked me to imagine my "future self" and then charged me for his brilliant insight. Some people really have no business taking other people's money to tell them to chase a childhood fantasy.

$350 for a childhood fantasy sounds about right, but @lisa_grant sometimes the dreaming part is worth it.
