Stumbled on a stat about interview follow-ups that made me pause

I was reading a report from a hiring platform last week that said only about 24% of applicants send a thank-you note after an interview. I always thought it was way more common than that. Has anyone else seen a shift in what's considered standard post-interview etiquette?

That number sounds about right from what I've seen. The real shift is that a quick email is now the standard, not a handwritten note. It feels like the expectation moved from a formal letter to a simple, polite follow-up. Many younger candidates might not even be taught that it's still a common courtesy.

My buddy in HR says they barely get any thank you emails anymore.

Forget thank you emails, I'm lucky if I get a reply after the interview. Sent one last week and got radio silence, which honestly tracks. Feels like the whole process has gotten way less personal on both sides. Maybe we're all just too busy or assume it doesn't matter anymore. Kinda sad when a basic "thanks for your time" feels like a big deal.
