That one piece of feedback that made me stop overexplaining in emails
My manager said 'you're writing novels when tweets would do' after I sent a 4-paragraph reply about a simple schedule change. I started limiting myself to 3 bullet points max and now people actually read my messages.

Did your manager also suggest emojis or was that implied?

In my experience, mentioning emojis usually came from someone who didn't want to actually deal with the issue head-on. They'd rather throw a smiley on it and pretend everything's fine. @faithbaker, if your manager is pushing emojis, they're probably just trying to soften a tough conversation so it looks friendlier on paper. The real test is whether they actually fix the problem or just want you to smile through it. My two cents: push back if they're just asking for fake happiness instead of real solutions.
