That post about 'follow your passion' vs 'just get a paycheck' hit me hard
I saw a guy on LinkedIn saying chasing dreams is for people with trust funds, then my buddy just quit his soul-crushing office job to flip houses and seems happier than ever. Which side do you lean toward when you're staring down 40 and still figuring it out?

Does your buddy have a backup plan if the housing market tanks?

My buddy's backup plan is that his wife has a real stable job with good insurance, so I guess that's a safety net. Personally my backup plan for the housing market tanking is to just cry into a bowl of cereal while watching reruns of Fixer Upper. I've been on both sides of this coin and honestly I think it's less about passion versus paycheck and more about what kind of misery you can put up with. The guy with the trust fund comment has a point but so does your friend who flipped houses because maybe he just needed a different kind of grind. I lean toward doing something that doesn't make you hate your alarm clock every single day even if that means a boring paycheck with a side hobby that feeds your soul. At 40 I've learned that balance usually gets you further than going all in on one extreme, your mileage may vary of course.
