Took 6 weeks to realize my resume format was the problem

I spent about a month sending out resumes for IT support roles and got zero callbacks. A friend in HR finally looked at mine and said the text was just a wall of bullet points with no clear sections. I reformatted it over a weekend with proper headings and spacing, and within 2 weeks I had 3 interviews lined up. Has anyone else had a simple formatting fix make that big a difference in their job hunt?

Recruitment people spend like 7 seconds scanning a resume before deciding. An ATS or hiring manager can't parse walls of text, they need clear headers and white space to spot keywords fast. Once you fix the layout, suddenly your actual experience gets seen instead of ignored.

In my experience formatting makes a huge difference, I did basically the same thing and went from radio silence to getting calls within a week or two.

My friend Sarah was literally pulling her hair out last year after sending out like 40 resumes and getting zero responses. She had all the right experience too. Finally someone told her to ditch the fancy template she made and just use a basic clean format with clear section headers. Within two weeks of making that change she had three interviews lined up. It was honestly that dramatic of a difference. She still talks about how mad she was that she spent months blaming her experience when it was just the layout all along lol.
