A foreman in Tulsa made me hand-nail a whole staircase and I still think he was wrong
Back in 2019 I was on a remodel in Tulsa and the foreman would not let us touch the framing nailer on a set of red oak stair treads, said the gun would split the wood and hand nailing with 8d finish nails was the only way. I spent two full days on that staircase and every tread cupped on me within 6 months anyway, while a guy I know in Wichita guns his treads on with a 15 gauge and never gets a callback. Was my foreman right and I just got unlucky with the lumber, or is hand nailing oak a thing people only do because their dad did it that way?
