Heard a guy at the lumber yard say he never checks his framing square anymore

I was picking up some 2x4s in Springfield last Tuesday and this older carpenter was telling his buddy he hasn't checked his steel framing square for true in over a decade, just trusts it. Mine went out by an 1/8 over 32 inches after a drop about six months back, and I only caught it because I was checking a long chalk line. That small error would have thrown off a whole wall. How often do you guys actually test your squares, and what's your method? I just use the 3-4-5 rule on a known straight edge now.
