My boss said my miters looked sloppy, turns out my saw fence was off by 2 degrees

Last Tuesday I was trimming out a closet in a rental in Portland and my foreman pointed at the gap in the corner and said that exact thing, so I grabbed a speed square and checked the blade against the fence. Turns out the saw had been knocked around on the truck and the fence was sitting at 88 degrees instead of 90, which explained why every joint had that tiny daylight at the back. Do any of you check your fence angle before every job or just trust it until something looks off?
