Pro tip: Check your lumber for internal stress before you start cutting a big project
I was building a set of custom built-in shelves for a client last week, and a 2x10 I cut for the top shelf twisted like a corkscrew after I ripped it. It was perfectly straight on the rack. I spent three hours trying to salvage it with clamps and wedges before I gave up and went back to the yard. The yard guy told me that batch of fir had been sitting in a weird spot and developed internal tension. Has anyone else had this happen with big box store lumber lately?

Yeah, that's the lumber yard's way of selling you a magic trick. The wood was straight, now it's not.
