Remember when we used to mark everything with a pencil?

I started framing houses back in the late 90s, and we only ever used a carpenter pencil for marking cuts and layout lines. Now half the guys on my crew reach for a Sharpie before a pencil, and I swear it throws my measurements off because the line is thicker. Anyone else stick to pencil or do you just go with the marker now?

Pencil lines are just more accurate, right? Sharpies make me nervous too.

Oh man, I feel you SO hard on this. I do most of my cutting and measuring at home for little projects, and I REFUSE to use a Sharpie for anything that needs to be precise. That thick marker line is just asking for trouble. I've seen guys shave off a 32nd or more just because they accidentally followed the wrong edge of that fat line and it drives me NUTS. Plus, pencil lets you erase and fix a mistake without ruining the wood. It's like the difference between writing a check and scribbling with a crayon. I'm Team Pencil all the way, no question.
