Next time grab a box of shims with the little adhesive tabs already on them. Total game changer for keeping everything in place while you figure out the other side.

Every little job in an old house is like that though right? The simple stuff always hides some nasty surprise behind it. I've noticed that pattern everywhere honestly... the quick oil change turns into a whole undercarriage inspection and the "just patch this drywall" means rewiring half the room. Kind of makes you wonder if the 30 minute estimate is just a trap we all fall into every single time.
