The old timer at my lumber yard said something about crown molding that stuck

He watched me cut a test piece and just said "you are fighting the material, let it sit where it wants." I tried coping instead of mitering on the next 12 foot run and it went up in 20 minutes with no gaps. Anyone else switch to coping after years of mitering, or am I late to this party?
