The way people measure door jambs around here drives me crazy

I keep seeing guys cut door jambs like they're guessing the numbers. Last week I watched a neighbor install a prehung door and he left a 1/4 inch gap on the top because he didn't check the level before nailing. My old boss always said measure three times, scribe your mark with a sharp knife, then cut. If you just eyeball it with a tape and a pencil, you're asking for a crooked mess. The jamb needs to be square to the frame, not just the wall. I've had to fix five doors this year alone for people who rushed it. Has anyone else noticed this getting worse or is it just the jobs I'm seeing?

Cut door jambs like they're guessing" - doors close fine 99% of the time anyway, who cares?

Measure three times and scribe with a sharp knife" - that's exactly how my old man taught me too. It drives me NUTS seeing people skip the basics and then act surprised when the door won't close right.
