Told me I was cutting crown molding wrong for 10 years and showed me why I had gaps
Old timer at the lumber yard said I was using a miter saw instead of coping the inside corners and now my joints actually fit tight, has anyone else had to unlearn something they swore worked fine?

Yeah that's a tough one, the cope cut is definitely king for inside corners.

Yeah you're right that the cope cut is pretty standard for inside corners. But I gotta say, a lot of guys skip the coping and just do a miter cut on inside corners. That works okay for a while but it always opens up when the trim shrinks. The cope does take more time and you gotta get good at it with a file or a saw. It's worth it though because it hides the gaps way better in older houses where walls aren't square. Just gotta make sure you undercut it enough so it fits tight.
