Took me 3 calls from a customer to stop using drywall screws for everything

I used to grab drywall screws for all my interior trim work because they were cheap and I had boxes of them. Then this one guy, a retired cabinet maker named Bill, called me out on it three separate jobs. He said the brittle shank on drywall screws will snap under seasonal wood movement, and he showed me a piece of baseboard he pulled off where every screw head had popped. I switched to cabinet screws with coarse threads and now I haven't had a single call-back for popped trim in 2 years. Does anyone here use Spax or GRK for trim, or is there a cheaper option that holds up?

My buddy Dan used drywall screws for his whole basement ceiling, and six months later half the panels were sagging because the screw heads kept shearing off, so yeah, stick with the GRKs.
