Dropped $180 on a power stretcher from that brand everyone recommends and it keeps slipping
Bought a Superior 8-foot power stretcher after hearing all the hype but the head keeps popping off on dense carpet pads, has anyone else had this problem with theirs or did I just get a lemon?

What a bummer, but honestly I think you might be expecting too much from it. I've had a Superior stretcher for about three years now and it's been rock solid on every type of pad from cheap stuff to thick commercial carpet. The trick is making sure the pins are all the way seated and the clutch is tight before you hit the lever. Most people who complain about slipping just aren't setting the head right in the first place.

That clutch tightness thing - how much torque are we talking? I've got a decent grip and I crank mine till it feels snug, but I'm always paranoid about overtightening and stripping something out.
