Floating baseboard trick for stubborn tack strip gaps

Had a job out in Phoenix where the concrete slab dipped bad near the sliding door, so the tack strip sat low and kicked the carpet edge loose every time. Tried doubling padding, that did nothing for a week. Finally cut a 1/4 inch plywood shim, glued it under the strip, and floated it level with the subfloor. Anyone else run into slab dips that ruin a seam, or do you just rip up and pour self leveler?
