Just discovered the trick to hitting seams perfectly on low-pile carpet

Been doing this for 7 years now, and I finally figured out why my seams on low-pile stuff like those tight loops always showed. Turns out I was using too much stretch. Backed off on the power stretcher by about 20% and now they disappear. Tested it on a job in a condo over on 3rd Ave last week, customer even said they couldnt see the line. Anyone else run into this with low-pile?

Oh man, I actually heard a tip from an old-timer at a supply house that less stretch is the secret with low-pile stuff, sounds like you proved him right. Glad it worked out on that condo job, nothing beats a clean seam.

Does that old-timer have any tricks for getting the backing to lay flat on low-pile too? I feel like that's where I always get into trouble, seems like it wants to wrinkle up if you don't hit it just right. You're spot on though, less stretch really is the way to go with that stuff, its like the fibers are already tight enough without us yanking on them. I messed up a bedroom once by pulling too hard on a cheap loop pile and the whole thing looked wavy the next day, had to rip it out and start over. Now I treat low-pile like it's delicate, just a light hand and a prayer.
