Kicked a tack strip this morning and saw stars
Was doing a bedroom install for a customer over in Oak Ridge, nothing fancy just some berber. I had the power stretcher set up and was pulling the carpet tight when my foot slipped off the kicker and I stomped right onto a tack strip I left exposed. That thing went straight through my sneaker and into my heel, blood everywhere. Had to stop for 20 minutes to clean it up and wrap my foot in duct tape and paper towels so I could finish the job. Anyone else ever have a tack strip go through their shoe like that or am I just unlucky?

Duct tape and paper towels, the official first aid kit of every flooring guy who's got a schedule to keep.

My neighbor is a carpenter and he always made fun of me for keeping a little first aid kit in my truck. I used to tell him I was just being prepared, but honestly I thought he was being a little dramatic about safety. After reading this I'm going to actually stock up on some real bandages and antiseptic wipes. Paper towels and duct tape work in a pinch but that's a rough way to learn a lesson. Two years ago I stepped on a nail at a job site and spent four hours in the ER getting a tetanus shot and a bandage. That changed my whole view on this stuff.
