Kicked myself for not checking tack strip gauge first

I was doing a re-do in a bedroom yesterday and the old carpet was glued over concrete, no tack strip at all. My boss saw me struggling with the kicker and pointed out I should have checked the subfloor type before even loading the van. How do you guys handle glue-down rooms where the old carpet is basically fused to the concrete?

Hold on, glued over concrete with no tack strip at all? That's a nightmare waiting to happen. I've had to deal with that where they used mastic and it basically welded the carpet to the floor, took me twice as long. Your mileage may vary, but I'd take a heavy-duty floor scraper and be prepared to rent a power stripper for that mess.

Yeah that mastic stuff is the absolute worst. Had a buddy help me pull up some glued down carpet in a basement once and we were both cursing the whole time. Power stripper definitely the way to go on that one, no point killing your back with a hand scraper.
