Overheard a guy at lunch say he uses a drywall square for carpet seams, tried it on a 12x15 room yesterday and it cut my time by a third.

Been fighting with straight edges slipping for years and that $8 drywall T-square grabbed the backing way better than my metal ruler, has anyone else found random tools that work better than the carpet stuff?

Whoa wait, a drywall T-square? That's wild. I've been using a heavy duty aluminum straight edge for years and it always slides around on the backing no matter how much weight I put on it. I never would have thought to try something with that little lip on it. Does the drywall square actually dig into the carpet fibers enough to hold it steady without ruining the pile? Because if that works I'm heading to the hardware store tomorrow morning and ditching my $50 carpet ruler.

Ngl that's genius, I've noticed the best tools rarely come from the aisle they're supposed to be in. Yeah the T-square lip grabs the backing without crushing the pile, just test it on a scrap piece first.
