Pro tip: stop stretching carpet the wrong way on stairs
I keep seeing guys stretch carpet across the tread instead of pulling it tight along the riser and tucking under the nose. That leaves a loose spot right where people step every day. I learned this the hard way after a redo in a Denver condo last fall where the homeowner called me back within two months. Anyone else run into this or have a better method for stairs with deep pile?

Yeah that sounds about right. People think stretching across the tread looks fine until the homeowner's foot catches the loose pile and they're taking a tumble down the stairs. I've seen guys do that and then act surprised when the carpet starts bunching up after a month. The whole point is to have it drum tight on the riser so the nose stays crisp and the tread doesn't shift. Denver's dry climate makes it even worse because the carpet shrinks and pulls loose faster. You'd think basic physics would tell you the spot that gets stepped on needs the most tension not the least.

@faith_thomas nailed it. I've tripped over my own loose carpet before, total clown move.
