Rant: I just read that a carpet installer in the 70s could lay 100 yards a day, no problem

Found this in an old trade magazine at my grandpa's house. It said the average installer back then was expected to handle a whole house in a single shift. They were using different tools, like knee kickers instead of power stretchers for a lot of jobs. Makes you wonder how the pace and the physical toll have changed over the years. Do you think the job is actually harder on the body now, or just different?

Wow, they must have had backs made of iron. I mean, my knees hurt just thinking about it.

My buddy tried to do that for a week and his back was a wreck. He said the old timers must have been built different. Makes you wonder how they managed it every day.
