Saw a carpet job at the old theater in Spokane that made me stop and stare
I was at the Fox Theater for a show over the weekend and couldn't help but check out the lobby carpet. It's this huge, intricate pattern with at least five colors woven in. The seams were invisible, and the pattern matched up perfectly across a 20 foot wide hall. I must have stood there for ten minutes trying to figure out how they did the layout. Has anyone else worked on a big historic building with a pattern that complex?

Reminds me of those old bowling alley carpets with the wild swirls. Feels like we lost something when everything went to boring gray floors.

What made us all decide gray was the only good color? @claireg81 I miss seeing those crazy patterns in diners and waiting rooms. Everything feels so safe and plain now. Like we traded fun for something that just looks clean.

Sixty bucks says @elizabeth_williams and I could still navigate a 1980s roller rink blindfolded if they brought back the carpet. Funny how we spent years calling those patterns ugly and now I'd trade my boring beige hallway for one in a heartbeat. Guess my sense of style peaked around the same time I thought jelly sandals were a good idea.
