Stretch versus power stretcher debate got heated on a job in Columbus yesterday

I was pulling carpet in a 12x15 bedroom and my power stretcher head slipped, ripped a 3 foot seam. My helper swore a manual knee kicker would've been better in that tight space - what's your take on when to switch tools?

Holding onto that "3 foot seam" like it proves something? Come on, that rip was user error not the tool. A manual knee kicker in a 12x15 bedroom? Your helper's crazy. Power stretcher gives you way more control and consistent stretch across the whole room. Yeah it's bigger and takes more setup but once you get the head locked in tight against the baseboard you're golden. Knee kicker's good for tight corners or stairs but for a full room like that you're asking for wavy carpet if you reliance on a kicker. The slip happened because you rushed or didn't check the head angle before pulling. Next time take the extra 30 seconds to seat it right instead of blaming the tool.

Wait, a 3 foot seam? How big was the gap in the head?
