The old seam iron vs. the new digital one I bought last spring

I got used to using a basic seam iron that was probably older than me. It got hot, it stayed hot, and it did the job. Then I dropped 450 bucks on one of those newer digital seam irons with the temperature readout. Figured it would make my life easier on jobs. Took it to a living room install in Denver last May and it kept flashing error codes if I moved too fast. Sticky seams, wasted time, had to drive back to the shop for my old one. I ended up selling the fancy one on Craigslist after two months. Has anyone else found those digital irons more trouble than they're worth?
