Tight stairwell forced my hand, foam vs wood, one won big
Had a nasty curved staircase in an old house in Portland last month, the kind where you can't swing a hammer without scraping paint. I had to choose between custom-cut wood tack strips and the newer foam padding strips for the transition. Picked foam because the curves were so tight and it took me 15 minutes versus the 3 hours I figured on wood. The foam held up fine under the pad and carpet, but I'm still nervous about how it'll do in a rental with heavy traffic. Anyone else trust foam on curved stairs long term, or should I stick to wood next time?
