Tried a $40 seam roller from the big box, what a joke on dense carpet
Picked up that cheap seam roller last week for a job in Fort Worth, thought it would save time on some heavy berber. Thing bounced like a pogo stick on the backing and left a visible line through the seam. Went back to my old metal roller with more weight, anyone else find the cheap ones only work on plush residential?

Have you ever tried one of those with the rubber sleeve over the metal? I read somewhere that the cheap ones flex too much because the frame is hollow, that's why they bounce. A solid steel roller spreads the weight even, you barely have to push. On berber, that extra bounce is the worst, it lifts the backing and makes a ridge. I had the same issue on a glue-down job last fall, ended up taping a sandbag to the handle just to get by.
