Hit 500 tapes in my collection today and it snuck up on me

I was just sorting through a box I picked up at a flea market in Des Moines last weekend and decided to count everything. 500 exactly. Never thought I'd get past maybe 100 when I started 3 years ago just grabbing my old mix tapes from high school. Half of them are probably worthless but there's something about that stack of plastic in my closet that makes me feel like I'm keeping a little piece of history alive. Anyone else ever realize they crossed a random number without meaning to?

Start counting and realize it's just a bunch of plastic and cardboard, you know? I mean, 500 tapes is cool and all but half of them probably sound like garbage by now anyway, especially if they were sitting in a box in some Iowa flea market. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like people get way too attached to the number itself instead of what's actually on the tape. Like congrats on hoarding a bunch of old Van Halen and Bon Jovi albums that nobody's gonna play on a Walkman ever again.

My record collection's just a shrine to bad decisions and sticky fingerprints.
