A random YouTube comment fixed my seasoning panic
I was scrubbing my 12-inch skillet after a tomato sauce mishap and the seasoning looked patchy and gray. Then I saw a comment on a video that said seasoning is a journey, not a one-time finish, and to just cook with it. So I stopped obsessing, did a quick stovetop oil wipe, and made cornbread the next day. It came out perfect and the pan looks better now than before. Anyone else recover from a sauce disaster by just ignoring the ugly phase?

Wait, are you saying you just wiped oil on it and didn't even strip it down first?
Tomato sauce is pretty acidic, so that gray patch is probably just a thin layer that got eaten away. Cornbread is nice and greasy so it kinda works, but I'd say do a proper layer or two of seasoning before you trust it with something else. Different pans react different though, so if it works for you, go with it.
