Can we talk about that old cast iron in my grandma's kitchen?
I visited my grandma's place last weekend and she still uses the same cast iron skillet she got as a wedding gift back in 1948. It's got this deep black patina from decades of bacon and cornbread. She just scrubs it with salt and a rag, never soap, and it's smoother than any new pan I've seen. Makes me wonder if we overthink all these fancy care routines when the old ways just worked fine.

Honestly, just letting bacon grease build up over time worked wonders for mine.

Swear my first attempt at seasoning a cast iron looked like I'd dipped it in tar and then tried to cook scrambled eggs. Grandma's pan is probably older than my dad and still outshines anything I can produce. If she ever passes it down, I'm putting a GPS tracker on it.
