Finally got my 12-inch skillet to a perfect non-stick finish after three months of messing up the seasoning.

Thin coats are the secret. I messed up my first skillet so bad it was basically a rust magnet til I learned to wipe almost all the oil back off before baking.

For years I just cooked on the stuff and hoped for the best. My cast iron always felt sticky or patchy. Seeing your post made me actually look up a proper method. I did the thin oil coats in the oven like five times in a row. It was a boring Sunday, but man, eggs just slide right off now. Totally worth the extra effort.

Five layers is a bit overkill for most pans.
