I think people are over-scrubbing their cast iron

I see so many posts about scraping and sanding every last bit of food off. My grandma used her same pan for 40 years and just rinsed it with hot water and a stiff brush. I've done the same for 5 years now and my eggs slide right off. Are you all giving your pans a rash with all that elbow grease?

Honestly I think people just like to make things more complicated than they need to be. A little bit of stuck food isn't going to ruin your pan or give your eggs some weird disease. Ngl half the time I see someone stripping and reseasoning their pan every week I wonder if they even use it for cooking or just for Instagram. Tbh your grandma knew what she was doing, and if it worked for 40 years then the whole sanding and scraping trend feels like a solution looking for a problem. Like are you eating off the pan or are you cooking with it? A bit of carbon build up isn't gonna kill you.

Right there with you. My buddy got into cast iron last year and he's out there with steel wool and chainmail every single time he cooks... meanwhile I just use a plastic scraper and hot water. That pan his grandma used for decades is proof enough. Eggs slide around mine too and I haven't touched soap in like 3 years.
