Noticed a lot more folks at the park using cast iron for camp cooking lately.

How do you keep your pan from rusting when you're using it outside so much?

Tbh, most people forget about condensation overnight. If your pan cools down outside, morning dew can wreck it. What works for me is giving it a quick wipe with oil and tossing it back on the warm coals for a minute before packing up. That extra heat sets a thin barrier against moisture. Saw a guy use a piece of bacon grease on a hot pan, then wipe it clean, and his never rusts. Basically, use the fire's leftover heat to your advantage.

Bacon grease is genius for that. I do the same with my cast iron after every cookout, just a quick heat and oil wipe.
