PSA: I was scrubbing my cast iron with dish soap for 2 years
Last weekend at a flea market in Portland, this old guy selling pans saw me eyeing a rusty skillet and asked how I clean mine. I told him soap and a scrub brush, and he just winced. He explained that modern cast iron seasoning is delicate and soap strips it no matter what people say. Now I just use salt and a paper towel for stuck food, and my eggs slide like magic. Anyone else get told something that made them flip their whole routine?

Yeah, the "soap strips seasoning" thing got me too. I did the same for a year before someone told me different. Salt scrub is a game changer, man.

A whole year with soap on cast iron? Damn, that hurts to even think about.
